Bristol-based experimental folk artist ÂELLIN has shared the new single, ‘Monarch’. “I used to write fairly straight acoustic folk singer-songwriter tunes,” says ÂELLIN, on the progression of her output from simplistic to avant-garde. “The songs were vessels to carry thought or lyricism; but I had always felt like the music and the sound could be pulling its weight more to convey the concepts or emotions.” This track shows off a unique palette of musical influences and sounds - slow, ethereal drones and vocalisations support the distant pluck of stringed acoustic instruments and violin melodies, while a distant drum kit provides a jazzy beat that ties the track together. ÂELLIN’s voice is the centrepiece, as it uniquely delivers lyrics about metamorphosis and transformation. Her debut album, Constellations, is out on September 5th, 2025, via Severn Songs. -Dan Peeke
